In October 2010, a “DNA Pilot Project” was launched through the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society. LMHS volunteer, Darvin Martin, has moved the project to its next phase by creating a website for the project through Family Tree DNA. He has also updated the name of the project to represent more concrete goals which were clarified during the 2017 Lancaster Family History Conference.
The project name is now “Mennonite and Amish Immigrants to Pennsylvania,” and will focus particularly on families of early Pennsylvania Mennonite and Amish settlers and their close relatives. All are welcome to join the project. In the public forum, results do not display the identity of the tester, but rather associate the DNA with the surname of origin, and the immigrant ancestor, if known.
