Did you know Columbia, Pennsylvania is the first place where the term “underground railroad” described the network to freedom that Black people created and carried out? People of conscience among white communities supported this freedom movement too, including some Mennonites. We are collaborating with the African American Historical Society of South Central PA to offer an Underground Railroad learning tour on Saturday, October 10 in Columbia. It will be held rain or shine and be mostly outside, from the covered pavilion to walking tour, with everyone wearing masks. There may be a brief opportunity for guests to view indoor exhibits at their discretion. Each guest will receive a driving map to visit additional locations around the city on their own after the 9 am to 12 pm learning tour concludes.
Cost is $40 per person.
