Lancaster Roots 2012

Each year, Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society and the 1719 Hans Herr House & Museum collaborate to host "Lancaster Roots," a year-long schedule of concerts, classes, festivals, field trips, exhibits and sales.   • Annual Music Night—Hear four unique sounds for one night only, Saturday, February 4, 7:00 PM at Neffsville Mennonite Church.
  • Lancaster Family History Conference—Learn the ins and outs of genealogical DNA research at this 33rd annual touchstone for genealogists and family historians.
  • Annual Banquet—Theologian and activist Ron Sider speaks on the topic of his new book The Early Church and Killing.
  • Bookworm Frolic—Buy a year’s worth of reading material at this immense outdoor used book sale.
  • Annual Storytelling Night—Let executive director of Mennonite Central Committee, Arli Klassen, and former president of Eastern Mennonite Missions, Richard Showalter, hold you spellbound with true stories from their unusual lives.

  • Folk Arts Classes—Try your hand at fraktur, featherstitching, painting Pennsylvania German boxes, or telling your life story.

Folk musicians Chuck Neufeld and Frances Miller are among four performances at the Annual Music Night, February 4.
Restorative-justice pioneers, Howard Zehr and Lorraine Stutzman Amstutz, will speak at a "quarterly meeting" lecture on February 27.
Seminal author and theologian, Dr. Ronald J. Sider, will speak at the Society's annual banquet, March 31.
