Try your hand at a variety of traditional Pennsylvania German folk arts and learn a bit of their history during these workshops with professional artists at Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society.

2012 Classes

• Paint a Pennsylvania German Box
  Saturday, March 10, 9:00 AM–noon
  
  Paint a document box with tulip and pinwheel motifs in the folk art manner of the Pennsylvania Germans. Using stencils and tracing paper, compass and straight edge, motifs are drawn on the prepainted red box then hand-painted under the instruction of Jim King. Advance registration required: $90 LMHS members; $95 nonmembers.

  Saturday, March 17, 9:00 AM–noon
  
  Try your hand at traditional Pennsylvania German painting and lettering with artist Emily Smucker-Beidler. Advance registration required: $60 LMHS members; $65 nonmembers.

• Telling Your Life Story
  Saturday, May 12, 10:00 AM–noon
  
  This Mother’s Day, review and practice several approaches to telling your life story in writing or audio recording with oral historian Jean Kilheffer Hess. Advance registration required: $45 LMHS members; $50 nonmembers.

• Featherstitching
  Saturday, October 13, 9:00 AM–noon
  
  Learn to do traditional featherstitching on top of a velvet crazy-quilt Christmas stocking with artist Lynn Sommer. Advance registration required: $60 LMHS members; $65 nonmembers.
