About Us

Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society, founded in 1958, is a nonprofit, educational organization loosely associated with the Lancaster and Atlantic Coast Conferences of the Mennonite Church. Our museum, retail book and gift shop, and library & archives are open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Our facilities are fully accessible to physically challenged persons.

We collect, preserve, and interpret books (library), photographs and documents (archives), and objects and artifacts (museum). The focus of our collections and educational programs relates to the historical background, religious thought/expression, culture, and family history of Mennonite/Amish groups originating in Pennsylvania, including their European background.

Join today and discover the benefits of an LMHS membership.

Mission Statement

To educate and inspire Mennonite families and congregations and the broader community through promotion of the history, beliefs and lifestyle of the Mennonite expression of the Anabaptist tradition.

Annual Report

The Society publishes an annual summary of significant Society programs and events for the preceding calendar year, available on request from our director.
